WHAT IS INVISALIGN?Invisalign is a highly innovative, state of the art method to correct all manner of teeth crowding and alignment issues. They are completely removable, with no fixed metal braces. The Invisalign aligners are very comfortable, transparent and fit over your teeth.
HOW DOES IT WORK?The planning stage is very important. Initially, records are taken. This will involve taking very accurate impressions and photographs. These will be sent to the USA for analysis and creation of the 'Clincheck'.
The 'Clincheck' is a 3-D video prediction of the treatment and how the final result will appear. This is vital and will allow you to appreciate how the system will work and the different stages involved.
Once the 'Clincheck' has been approved, the aligners are then fabricated.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO WEAR THEM?The Invisalign aligners need to worn for 20-22 hours of the day. They can be removed for eating, drinking, cleaning your teeth and social occasions. This is the key factor- they must be worn for the recommended time otherwise treatment will be delayed or even unsuccessful.
WHAT ELSE IS INVOLVED?In most cases, the use of attachments are required. These are composite white filling attachments which are placed on the outside or inside of the teeth to aid the aligners to perform the teeth movement required. In most cases, these can be placed further toward the back of the mouth so that they are not visible.
Space is usually required for most cases, especially where the teeth are very crowded with overlapping or rotations for example. Space creation is called IPR- inter proximal reduction. This is achieved using fine strips and gentle filing of the teeth contacts. This is a perfectly safe technique that has no detrimental effect on teeth.
CAN I EAT WHATEVER I LIKE?Yes. As the aligners are removable, you can eat your normal diet. However, as the teeth start to move they will become slightly mobile. Therefore, some crunchy or chewy foods may be best avoided.
