Case of the Month- November 2019

Our case of the month for November involves a re construction of the bite over a number of years. The main reason for treatment was due to severe tooth wear due to bruxism. Bruxism is essentially grinding at night to such an extent that the enamel is worn over a number of years. This can cause a number of problems such as: Tooth sensitivity Difficulty in eating Lack of a coherent bite Aesthetic issues Pain leading to root canal treatment in severe cases Tooth wear, on the whole, can be prevented or… READ MORE

Case of the Month- February 2018

Our case of the month for February 2018 involves the treatment of tooth wear. Tooth wear is an increasing problem with modern day life. Stress, night time grinding and acidic diets all lead to loss of tooth enamel which is the hardest tissue in the body! The loss of tooth enamel leads to a weakening of the overall tooth structure exposing the underlying dentine which is much weaker and more susceptible to tooth decay and sensitivity. In the first instance, prevention is better than cure. Therefore, if you… READ MORE

Case of the Month July 2015

Our case of the month for July involves the restoration of severe tooth wear using the Dahl technique. The Dahl technique The Dahl technique is a great concept for the treatment of localised tooth wear, especially on the front teeth. The concept involves potentially a number of methods but we prefer direct bonding. For example, if the upper front teeth are worn but there is no space to restore them, we may use the Dahl concept to restore them. Direct composite restorations are placed to restore the teeth… READ MORE

Case of the month- May 2015

Our case of the month for May is one involving tooth wear. Tooth wear is a very common problem caused buy a number of factors and usually a combination of them all. The most common cause is night time grinding or bruxism. This can be hugely damaging to teeth. Did you know that on average our teeth make contact for only about 10-20 minutes of the day. During night grinding, the average contact time is 4 hours! It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out this is far too much contact which will lead to … READ MORE

Case of the month- October 2014

Our case of the month for October involves cosmetic bonding of the lower front teeth which were heavily worn and using a principle called the Dahl technique. This technique is not very well known but it is fantastic method for treating worn down teeth where there is no space to restore them. For example, when your front teeth wear down due to grinding, acid erosion, bad habits (biting pens, nails etc), there is often little space to restore the teeth using conventional fillings. In the old days, the teeth m… READ MORE

Case of the Month June 2014

Our case of the month for June involves repairing worn and fractured edges of the upper front teeth using cosmetic bonding. Cosmetic bonding is a fantastic technique to repair teeth using minimally invasive dentistry. The process involves NO drilling, NO needles and NO pain. Please take a look at our case: Worn, chipped front teeth. Note the translucency present. After cosmetic bonding. Just like new! The difference is amazing and all completed in just one session. How is this done? There are a number … READ MORE

Gastric reflux 5. Parafunctional habits such as nail chewing, pen biting for example These can all lead to teeth that are fragile, weak at the edges, smaller and asymmetrical. This can lead to significant fracture of the teeth and require more advanced treatments such as root canals and crowns. However, if th… READ MORE

Tooth wear and erosion

You may have noticed the increasing number of adverts for the treatment of tooth sensitivity and tooth erosion. Why is this? The answer is simple; our diets and habits. DIET In general, our diet has become far more acidic over the years. For example, you may be surprised to learn that certain fruits have a very high acid content that can dissolve healthy tooth enamel. Citrus fruits are especially acidic. Fizzy drinks are also very acidic. Did you know that a typical cola drink could dissolve your entire… READ MORE
