Why You Should Consider Lingual Braces

Braces technology has greatly evolved over the years, and there are now various types to choose from. The least visible of any form of the tooth-aligning orthodontic procedure lingual braces or incognito braces are now growing in popularity. It is becoming a preferred option by those who are more conscious about how their braces look like. Read on the find out why you should consider lingual braces.

What Are Lingual Braces?

We all know about the typical braces that are positioned on the front of our teeth. What makes lingual braces different is that they are placed behind the teeth or in doctor language, the lingual side. However, despite the fact that they are as effective and more under the radar than any other orthodontic procedures, they are still not as popular as the traditional braces. One of the reasons is that not all orthodontists offer this kind of procedure since this requires specialised training.

How Do Lingual Braces Work?

Lingual braces work like traditional braces with brackets and wires. However, they are relatively smaller and customized. They are bonded at the back of your teeth on the tongue side. Lingual braces work in the same way as any other type of braces. They also depend on the interaction between the wires and brackets to apply continuous and gentle pressure to move the teeth into its proper positions. Just like traditional braces, your orthodontist will also need to schedule an appointment every 6-8 weeks or so to adjust the braces to help move your teeth into the ideal position. If you choose lingual braces, a dental impression or teeth scanning may be done to assess the condition of your teeth. The brackets and wires are tailor-made and, depending on the severity of your dental problem, you may have to wear lingual braces between 18 and 24 months.

What Are The Benefits Of Lingual Braces?

Lingual braces have its advantages and here are a few of them:

  • Since they are placed behind the teeth, they are less visible, which is why most adults actors, models, or those who are constantly in the public eye prefer them. This is a great alternative for those people who want to straighten their teeth without the visible metal brackets.
  • Lingual braces help to correct various dental problems, such as rotations and gaps. They can also change the heights of the teeth.
  • Lingual braces are slightly forgiving to those with poor hygiene. Those wearing traditional braces must always maintain proper hygiene and brush their teeth regularly. If they are negligent, the discolouration can occur after removing the braces. Since lingual braces are placed behind the teeth, discolouration is not as visible.
  • They are ideal for those who play wind instruments since they will have lesser problems because of the specific placement of the brackets and wires.
  • Lingual braces offer more flexibility, meaning they do not have to be placed on all teeth. Your orthodontist can recommend a treatment plan depending on the severity of your dental concerns. If there are no underlying medical conditions like an irregular bite, the braces can only be placed on the areas that need straightening.

There are certain factors to consider before getting lingual braces. Aside from the fact that not all orthodontists can perform this procedure, not everyone can wear lingual braces. Social 6 lingual brace, whitening and bonding. The truly invisible brace

One of our favourite treatments for cosmetic teeth straightening is the Social 6 lingual brace. This brace is the truly invisible brace as it is placed on the inside of the teeth. Even though lingual braces have been around for many decades, there is little awareness of the system as the treatment in the past has been kept within the realm of specialist orthodontists and the costs have been incredibly high compared to conventional braces. Now for complex cases, lingual brace treatment is an extremely diffic… CONTINUE READING
