Waterlase iPlus Laser Polyp Removal

Our case of the month involves the removal of a fibro epithelial polyp using the Waterlase iPlus laser.

What is a fibroepithelial polyp?

A fibroepithelial polyp is a very common, firm, painless swelling found mainly on the inside of the cheeks, lips and tongue. It represents a reactive, localised scarring due to trauma or local irritation. This is usually cheek, lip or tongue biting. The size of the polyp usually remains static unless there is continual irritation or trauma where it can increase in size. The tissue is benign and absolutely nothing to worry about. The polyp can be left or removed. Removal is a personal choice depending on how much it annoys you.

Before Waterlase iPlus laser treatment

Here is typical example of a polyp on the inside of the lip. It has been present for many years but our patient wished to remove it.

After Waterlase iPlus laser treatment

The Waterlase iPlus is incredibly efficient at removing soft tissue lesions. The technology allows us to remove the lesion quickly and without stitches. Within 7 days, the area has healed beautifully as can be seen below.

Unless the area is continually irritated, the polyp will not return. A biopsy confirmed our diagnosis. This is recommended just to be safe but is a patient choice.

Fibroepithelial polyp Costs

Fibroepithelial polyp removal is £400 or £320 if you join our membership. Biopsy at Guys Hospital is £180.
