New Year Dental Hygiene Tips For 2023

It's New Years Eve! Wow, how quickly has that year gone? Most of us will be glad to see the back of 2022 and hope that 2023 brings more stability. Alcohol is likely to be on the agenda tonight and why not indeed. Here, we have a few dental hygiene tips on how to look after your teeth after indulging in a glass or two.

How To Look After Your Teeth After Drinking Alcohol

1. Drink plenty of water: Alcohol can dehydrate the body, including the mouth. Drinking water can help rinse away any food particles or bacteria that may be left behind in the mouth.

2. Brush and floss your teeth: Be sure to brush and floss your teeth at the end of the night. We generally advise waiting 10 minutes after the last glass to allow the natural buffering action of saliva to occur.

3. Avoid sugary drinks: If you're drinking alcohol, try to avoid sugary mixers, as they can contribute to tooth decay. Instead, opt for water or a low-sugar mixer. Soda water would be a great mixer. Not only will it act to dilute the alcohol, the sodium bicarbonate will also neutralise acids and create a more PH balanced drink. Good for your teeth and stomach.

4. Rinse your mouth with mouthwash: Rinsing your mouth with mouthwash can help kill bacteria and freshen your breath.

5. A waterflosser such as Waterpik is a great adjunct to cleaning as it will reach in between teeth and hard to access areas. This is especially useful if you have one too many and are really tired!

Vodka Soda - Sugar Free!

Here is a recipe for a vodka cocktail that is sugar free.

Ingredients:
2 ounces vodka
4 ounces soda water
1 lemon or lime wedge, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
Fill a tall glass with ice.
Pour the vodka over the ice.
Top with soda water and stir gently to combine.
Squeeze the lemon or lime wedge over the drink and drop it into the glass (optional).

This simple cocktail is a refreshing and low-calorie option for a New Year's celebration. The vodka provides a clean, crisp flavour, while the soda water adds a little bit of fizz. The lemon or lime adds a touch of citrusy flavour. Enjoy!
