One Of These Teeth Is A Dental Implant- Can You Guess?

Dental implants are the best way to replace missing teeth. This is the case if you have one, several or all missing teeth. In the case of one missing tooth, the replacement tooth using a dental implant can look exactly the same as a natural tooth or even better!

For example, just look at this photograph. Can you tell which tooth is the dental implant?

There are a few dental crowns present- only one is a dental implant

Dental implants act as the replacement for the root(s) of the tooth and the replacement tooth is secured to this. As the implant is made from titanium, you will glad to hear it can never decay or need a root canal treatment. However, you must look after it as well as your natural teeth as they can suffer from gum disease. For those interested, the dental implant is the lower first molar tooth. It is an Astra Tech implant placed and restored by Dr Nissit Patel.

The loss of even one tooth can impact on everyday eating habits and long term issues with the bite. For example, teeth will slowly move into the space left by an extracted toot… CONTINUE READING

How can you change the colour of a dark front tooth?

One of the most common causes of discoloured teeth is due to a 'dead tooth' or a tooth that is root filled. All of our teeth are supplied by nerve and blood supply. Now when a tooth needs a root canal treatment, this supply called the pulp is removed which can lead to the deposition of blood products within the tooth which is then absorbed by the tooth leading to a darker colour. On a back tooth, this may not have any major issue but on a front tooth is a different matter altogether!… CONTINUE READING

Replacing missing teeth is vital as this will restore function ( eating is important!) , improve aesthetics and prevent the adjacent and opposing teeth from moving into undesirable positions. The latter is a particular problem if the teeth are not re… CONTINUE READING
