Replace Existing Veneers

Our case this month involved the replacement of existing veneers which were failing with new ones. For those of you who know very little about veneers, here are 5 key points:

  1. Porcelain veneers are placed over the facial surface of the tooth to improve the aesthetic appearance
  2. Almost all veneers require some level of tooth preparation i.e we have to cut your teeth!
  3. Veneers can change the symmetry of the teeth to golden proportions i.e even central, lateral, canine teeth for example. This is particularly useful when one tooth is small in comparison to the adjacent teeth.
  4. The veneer can be fully customized in terms of shade, differential contours, translucency at the edge, craze lines and light reflection.
  5. Porcelain can be bonded to tooth enamel extremely well with a bond strength of up to 95kg/cm3. However, the bond strength to dentine is much less. Therefore, minimal preparation is best into enamel only.

The end result of our case is fabulous and truly world class. Please take a look:

The existing veneers were bulbous, uneven and cracking.

After smiling
The new veneers are incredible. Natural, life like, even- world class dentistry

The difference is clear to seen. Whilst the above photos show bulbous veneers with a distinctly matt finish, the final result is a world apart. Extremely natural, varying light reflection, even and glossy. It is extremely important to know where the veneers are going to be made and by which laboratory. The above veneers were made by Luke Barnett lab with the treatment carried out by Dr Nissit Patel. If you would like to know more about porcelain veneers, please contact us.

Porcelain veneers to close gaps and widen a smile

Porcelain veneers are still regarded as one of the main cosmetic dentistry techniques. In skilled hands, they can look just like teeth. Now, we are not talking 'Turkey Teeth' here! You may have seen many social media sites showing smile makeovers in Turkey with super white 'veneers'. In reality, these veneers are actually crowns that cover the entire tooth surface after the teeth have been cut down to little stumps. This is not cosmetic dentistry but butchery, to be blunt. Porcelain veneer treatment should … CONTINUE READING

Composite Bonding vs. Porcelain Veneers: Which is Right for Your Smile?

To answer this question, we really need to differentiate the two treatments as they are two different treatment entirely. Composite bonding is an additive process. In simple terms, we carefully sculpt composite resin over the teeth in question. This can be used to treat chipped, fractured, uneven and gappy teeth. Composite can also be used to replace old fillings on front ( or back) teeth. The great advantage of bonding includes:1. Treatment is completed in one visit; an instant smile transformation! 2. Min… CONTINUE READING

Composite veneers vs Porcelain veneers. Which is best?

One of the most topical subjects at the moment is the debate between composite and porcelain for dental restorations. In terms of cosmetic dentistry, this equates to the use of composite veneers and porcelain veneers. It is important to note that composite veneers can either be made by a laboratory or placed free hand by the dentist in the chair. Porcelain veneers can only be made by a dental laboratory or within a dental practice that has the necessary technology such as computer aided design and a milling… CONTINUE READING
