Invisalign, Dental Implants, Ceramic Crowns & Cosmetic Bonding

Our case of the month for May 2013 is a combination case of orthodontics using Invisalign clear removable braces, dental implants, ceramic crowns and cosmetic bonding. Due to quite severe tooth wear due to grinding at night and general issues with the condition of her teeth, our patient sought treatment that was designed to treat all the major considerations but with a minimal emphasis. Initially Invisalign was used to straighten the teeth and place them in the optimal position for the planned dental implant. After this, all ceramic crowns were placed on badly damaged teeth and composite bonding was done on chipped front teeth. Overall, a fantastic result and a delighted patient. Please view the before and after photographs:

missing teeth, worn teeth, broken teeth
Note the missing tooth on the right side and the damaged teeth. Invisalign braces had been used to straighten the teeth.
dental implant, straight teeth, cosmetic dentistry
Note the difference on the right side. Natural, aesthetic and functional. A wonderful result.

This treatment adheres to our ethos of minimal intervention. It would be easy to prepare and cut healthy tooth enamel to provide an 'instant' orthodontic result but this is DESTRUCTIVE. Aligning the teeth first allows far more favourable positions for the teeth to be restored for dental implants and crowns if required. This will provide a longer lasting result with increased function. The entire treatment was provided by Dr Nissit Patel. The all ceramic crowns used were Empress E max. The dental implants used were Astra Tech.

Dental implants to replace missing back teeth and improve the bite

Replacing missing back teeth is essential. The molar teeth are designed for mastication i.e chewing . Without molars, it is far harder to break down foods for ease of swallowing. This essentially means that the diet will be one of soft foods only and eating will take much longer. This would not be a great look at a New Years eve dinner party! Our front teeth are created for incising food i.e cutting. If the teeth in front of the molars are overloaded with excessive force then further problems will result su… CONTINUE READING

Invisalign Comprehensive to Close Spaces and Improve the Bite

One of the most common comments we encounter when discussing Invisalign with our patients is 'can Invisalign really close large gaps between my teeth?'. The reason for this is that most dentists will say that only fixed braces have enough 'force' to close spaces with any certainty. However, with careful planning and using the latest technology available, we can predictably close gaps and improve the bite using Invisalign.… CONTINUE READING

Replacing multiple teeth with dental implants

Teeth can be lost for various reasons such as tooth decay, trauma, failed root canal treatments or periodontal (gum) disease. The loss of teeth can have a significant impact on not only everyday function but aesthetics and general confidence when out and about. Replacing missing teeth is vital as this will restore function ( eating is important!) , improve aesthetics and prevent the adjacent and opposing teeth from moving into undesirable positions. The latter is a particular problem if the teeth are not re… CONTINUE READING

A smile says a thousand words, as the old saying goes. However, if you never smile what does that tell us? In most cases, hiding a smile means that one is embarrassed with their teeth and lack overall confidence. This is perfectly understandable and something we see on a daily basis. The good news is that a smile transformation is no longer an arduous process which costs the earth, as our case of the month highlights.… CONTINUE READING
